“While their methods differ radically, artists and physicists share the desire to investigate the ways the interlocking pieces of reality fit together. This is the common ground upon which they meet.”
Leonard Shlain, Art & Physics
2025 is a special year for the arts and the natural sciences. We have teamed up to develop a set of experiences that will allow them to broaden their knowledge in the arts and sciences, led by the best teachers.
We are used to think that the arts and sciences have no relationship, but they are linked in such an intimate way that the artist will always wonder what would be the best material to develop his work and for that he must know its structure and behavior. We could say that the sciences and the arts share the same goal, the interpretation and transformation of reality. José Ramón Marcaida in the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU of the TopARTE program indicates that:
¨The first illustrations of animals and plants, the collecting of natural wonders, the work of artists. Throughout its history, human beings have represented nature in different ways that have played a fundamental role in the generation of scientific knowledge. But this influence has also been in the opposite direction, since scientific discoveries have served as inspiration and have influenced the development of pictorial techniques and artistic styles, marking the evolution of the history of art.¨
On the other hand, art and science share the principle of observation, the sensitivity to seek to understand a phenomenon and the desire to understand the environment, which is the basis for initiating the construction and elaboration of knowledge. We hope that the art and science fair will give you great knowledge and pleasure to continue learning and exploring new ways of understanding the world.
