On May 8th and 15th , our 8th graders were part of a one-on-one speaking exercise to challenge their spontaneous communicative skills.
The exercise, although slightly challenging for the students, aimed at reinforcing effective pedagogical practices, particularly the articulation of ideas in spontaneous situations.
Students were grouped in pairs so they could interact during the interview in the second language. Each student was assigned a card with two images, which had to be compared, followed by a context-based question. It is important to highlight that students needed to articulate their responses in limited time, as they were not informed in advance about the content of their speaking cards.
For six minutes, each pair demonstrated their interactive speaking ability, putting to the test their lexical and grammatical knowledge, discourse skills, and pronunciation which turn out to be essential elements for effective communication in the real world.
This simulation was made possible thanks to the collaboration of all teachers in the Language Arts Department for Secondary School, and the General English Coordinator, Andrea Huertas. The goal is to replicate this activity with sixth and seventh-grade students before the end of the academic year.
At CAS we value communication in English as a way to explore the world!
