The BotaniCAS, a botanical-artistic expedition, was an educational and practical experience that immersed fifth grade and high school students in the rich world of botany within our school environment. By exploring the ecological trail of native trees, participants had the invaluable opportunity to observe plants in their natural habitat and identify various species by using botanical guides and keys. Students showed great motivation for the fieldwork, where direct observation of plants significantly captured their attention.
Throughout this BotaniCAS expedition, a key component was the subsequent work in the art room, focusing on color composition and drawing with watercolors. Here, students translated their observations and learning into artistic expressions; in so doing, they showed immense creativity and continued motivation.
This workshop promoted a greater awareness of biodiversity and conservation, especially of native species, and became a vital tool for forming citizens committed to protecting our natural heritage. Without a doubt, BotaniCAS was an enriching journey that left a lasting impression on the students’ perspective of nature and their role within it.
