On August 6th, the Transition students enjoyed an enriching educational field trip to the salt mine in Nemocón, Cundinamarca. This activity was designed to bring students closer to the rich history and culture of our country, as part of our annual project: “Discovering Colombia, a Land of Wonders.”
During the visit, we took a guided tour through the mine, exploring its tunnels and inner wells, and learning how salt is formed and extracted in this emblematic place. The experience also included a tour of the History and Art Museum, where the children observed animal bones that once belonged to species that inhabited the Bogotá savanna, as well as works of art from indigenous communities who lived in the region – a great compliment to the day!
We also discovered that the mine was used as a filming location for the movie The 33, further sparking the curiosity and interest of the students.
At the end of the day, the children returned full of wonder, excitement and new knowledge, having gained a deep sense of pride in Colombia’s wonders.
