Leadership is to know how to guide and motivate people to a principal objective, or it is the capacity to influence other people to reach a goal. In leadership, teamwork is essential because when people don’t cooperate it leads to chaos.
Visionary Leadership is to not give up when things are not going as expected; if you are working on a project, and it’s going well, but then something goes wrong you cannot give up – when you have a vision of the final goal, you will do what is necessary to achieve it
Last term, I experienced a situation where I learned that if even one person in a group you are working in disagrees, it lead to a very big problem for the whole group.
It all started in a normal Global Perspectives class: We needed to create groups to start making a country. During the first 4 classes it was going well. We were cooperating, our project was going very well, and we had a great vision for the country we were making. We were all collaborating and working well, but then…
One day the teacher told us that we had to create a flag, a map, a virtual presentation and do an investigation. We divided the work, so that everyone had something to do. During the first class, we were making sketches of the flag, the map and the presentation. We searched for names for our country’s cities and for a logo for the flag. Then in the next class, things weren’t working so well: There was miscommunication, and misunderstandings happened. The group wasn’t collaborating, and we fell behind. The atmosphere was tense because some members started blaming others and vice versa.
We began talking about the problem because we couldn’t continue in this way. We clarified everything, made agreements, and were back on track. Finally, we got the project off the ground, and it went very well.
We all learned that problems can happen and it is normal, but we can’t let the problem lead us to fighting when it can be fixed. We also learned that we need to listen to each other and have all opinions to make a clear goal.
I was the president of my country in the first term but not this term. I want to be the president again during the third term. I think that I am responsible and organized which could help me be in that roll again – I have a vision for the country: An organized land where people cooperate and don’t fight, and I think that I have the essentials to achieve it.
