Teaching our preschool students about St. Patrick’s Day was a lovely challenge, so we decided to bring the celebration to life with the help of our friends Spotty and Piggy. Through their playful introduction, our students explored where this tradition comes from and discovered some of its most popular elements: wearing green, shamrocks, and the mischievous leprechauns. They also enjoyed a joyful read-aloud of Ten Lucky Leprechauns by Kathryn Heling, helping them understand how learning about different cultures enriches our English environment at school.
Back in their classrooms, our students strengthened their fine motor skills through creative, hands-on activities that they were excited to take home and share with their families. Our Nursery students made beautiful shamrock headbands, while Prekinder children carefully decorated shamrocks using tiny pieces of tissue paper. In Kinder, students had a wonderful time creating rainbow necklaces with Froot Loops—although by the end of the day, many necklaces had turned into tasty snacks! Meanwhile, our Transition students decorated colorful rainbows using small balls of plasticine.
