As part of our project Messages Through Time, Transition students have been actively participating in meaningful experiences designed to help them understand how communication has evolved throughout history. Through daily rotations, students have explored two different ways of transmitting messages.
On one hand, they learned about the traditional carrier pigeon, a method used since ancient times to deliver short messages quickly across long distances. On the other hand, students explored the use of loudspeaker announcements, a communication strategy that is still commonly used today to share information immediately with large groups of people. These activities not only strengthen students’ understanding of history, but also promote communication skills, teamwork, and connections between the past and the present.
Each day, one student from every Transition class is selected to participate in these special roles. The “Pigeon of the Day” is responsible for delivering messages between teachers and coordinators throughout the school day, while another student uses a speaker to share announcements during recess in different Preschool areas, including the playground, cafeteria, and Blue Zone.
This strategy has been quite successful, helping maintain high levels of motivation, responsibility, and engagement among our Transition students while making learning both interactive and meaningful.
