On September 17, Transition students celebrated the closing of the Messages Through Time project with their families. Parents had the opportunity to discover the many ways their children had explored communication throughout the school year. They watched videos showcasing some of the strategies students had used (including carrier pigeons, mail carriers and megaphones) during recess, as well as participated in Physical Education activities that combined movement and message-sending.
Students then rotated through four exciting learning experiences. With their self-contained teachers, they acted out three scenes. In the first, a CVC word contest, students demonstrated their ability to segment and blend sounds while also showcasing their knowledge of Morse code. In the second scene, a Rock Art experience, they shared their drawings and explored painting and dancing as creative ways to communicate. Finally, they presented bar graphs based on surveys about how members of the CAS community communicate and send messages today.
During the Language experience, students participated in a MiniARCO activity, demonstrating their reading skills as they played and learned alongside their parents. In the Music and ICT experience, students combined music, instruments, and robotics to create an engaging performance. Finally, the Formación Humana activity invited families to design a tool for identifying emotions and behaviors in different real-life situations.
It was a joyful and meaningful way to bring the project to a close. Parents and students learned, played, and shared together, celebrating everything the children had accomplished throughout the project. Families were delighted to see how much their children had learned and how they had connected communication with language, art, movement, technology, music, and social-emotional learning.
