Last Friday, August 14, our school community celebrated a very special event: English and French Day. The purpose of the event was to explore how art and languages could come together while learning about different artistic movements, including Pop Art, Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, Contemporary Art, and Art Deco. Each grade was assigned an artistic movement, and during our Language Arts classes, we learned about our movement and worked together to create activities, decorations, and presentations for the big day.
In 6A, we explored Pop Art. We wanted to show people that almost anything can become art—even everyday objects and things we might normally consider trash. With the help of our teacher, we created colorful and eye-catching posters using ordinary objects and even members of our school community as inspiration. We transformed familiar things into artworks using Pop Art techniques.
Creating the posters and preparing our activities required a lot of teamwork, which helped us strengthen our communication skills. Throughout the process, we used English to share ideas, organize our work, and solve problems. This gave us the opportunity to use English in a real-life situation rather than only in the classroom.
But we did more than create posters. We also prepared a play called The Pop Art Jury, a Repetition Lab, and a Comic Factory. These activities allowed students from different grades—and even teachers—to participate and learn more about Pop Art. We rehearsed, gave each other feedback, and worked hard to make sure everyone who visited our station had a great experience.
The Big Day
Finally, the day we had been preparing for arrived! We wore our best outfits to represent our artistic movement and began the celebration with the opening ceremony. We enjoyed amazing dance and music performances, followed by a special performance by our Language Arts teachers that caught everyone’s attention. The teachers also presented awards to students who had demonstrated outstanding English skills. From the very beginning, it was clear that the day was going to be full of fun and memorable activities.
After the break, we began rotating through the different stations around the school. We saw all the creativity, effort, and teamwork that students had put into their projects. We discovered beautiful artworks and participated in activities that made the experience enjoyable for everyone.
Later, we watched the fashion show. Some students had the opportunity to feel like real models as they walked down the runway wearing outfits inspired by different artistic movements. They struck different poses and confidently showed off their creative designs, making the fashion show one of the most exciting moments of the day.
What I Learned
I think English Day was a joyful and exciting experience. Preparing for the event taught us the importance of autonomy, teamwork, and responsibility. My favorite part of the day was the fashion show because I got to see some of our teachers modeling in creative and unexpected outfits. Seeing them in a completely different setting was really fun, and I think it helped bring our school community closer together.
I also had a wonderful time with my friends throughout the day. Most importantly, English Day taught me that teamwork is not only important for students my age—it is important for everyone. When people work together, they can create something truly special. The performance by our teachers and directors was a great example of this, and it was one of the moments that inspired me the most.
